Fun Facts You Need To Know About Game Of Thrones Characters Before Season 8

Game of Thrones Fans have waited for almost two years for the final (*cue floods of tears*) season of Game of Thrones. Who will be crowned ruler of the Seven Kingdoms? Who will get to sit on the Iron Throne? Will he or she be from House Stark, the underdogs and the crowd-favorite, from House Targaryen, the supposed rightful ruler of Westeros, or will House Lannister retain this grand seat of power? Perhaps, the iron throne will be melted and the seven kingdoms will co-exist in harmony without a need of a ruler to unify them. Or maybe, the Night King will destroy all life and turn everyone into White Walkers (where everyone will be equals probably, but ruled by a cold-hearted tyrannical undead king).

Whatever the outcome is, we just want the best for the characters we’ve watched and loved for almost 9 years and counting. Check our list below of what to watch out for this season.

What to Expect For Your Favorite GoT Characters for Season 8

  1. Daenerys Targaryen

Mother of Dragons is just one of the many titles of the favorite queen of Game of Thrones. In this seasonafter her many outstanding achievements such as liberating slaves, hatching dragon eggs, you know just the usualDaenerys’s running title (until she achieves more badass accomplishments) would be “Daenery Stormborn of House Targaryen, Rightful Heir to the Iron Throne, Rightful Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, the Mother of  Dragons, the Khaleesi of the Great Grass Sea, the Unburnt, the Breaker of Chains.” However, with her beloved Viserion turning into a wight and with the people at King’s Landing not giving her a warm welcome as she had expected, we are excited to see how she plans to win the heart of the people and how she differentiates herself from the Mad King, despite having incredible power and strong armies.

  1. Jon Snow

During the last episode of Game of Thrones Season 7, the truth about Jon Snow’s birth was finally revealed (Ned Stark’s bastard turns out to be the son of his sister, Lyanna Stark, and Rhaegar Targaryen. On Season 8, Daenerys and Jon Snow are in for a surprise; Daenerys may find out that she is not the last descendant of House Targaryen and Jon may find himself not only the King in the North but an heir to the Iron Throne.

Many also speculate that Jon will fulfill the prophecy and take on the role of the legendary hero, Azor Ahai. However, some fan theories point out that it may not be “the prince who was promised” but, rather, “the princess who was promised.” Thus, some hope that it’s Daenerys. The only way to find out would be to watch season 8!

  1. Arya Stark

With Arya Stark’s training finally complete, she is off to avenge her family and cross off the names on her kill list. The official trailer of Game of Throne Season 8 alludes to this as Arya monologues about knowing death and looking forward to “seeing this one.” The remaining living characters on Arya’s kill list are The Hound, Cersei Lannister, Ilyn Payne, The Mountain, Melisandre, and Beric Dondarrion (maybe).

However, in the official season trailer, we also see the statues of the three Starks—Jon, Arya, and Sansa—in Winterfell’s tomb. The nerve-wracking reveal is that only Jon Snow’s statue looks old. Meanwhile, the age range of the statues of Arya and Sansa seem to  fall under their current age range. We’re not sure if this is a foreshadowing of the Stark sisters’ death this season or a scene meant to divert the viewer’s attention. Whatever the outcome is, we hope that Arya at least finishes her kill list (except for The Hound, maybe, since we’ve grown fond of him lately).

  1. Sansa Stark

The storyline of Sansa for this season is a bit unclear. On Season 7, we see the glorifying character arc of the Lady Stark. The future seems bleak for Sansa, however. Aside from the incredibly young depiction of Sansa in the Stark’s family tomb, she also said the following words to Daenerys in the Season 8 teaser trailer, “Winterfell is yours, your Grace.” These are almost the very same words that Ned Stark uttered to Robert Baratheon during the first episode of the first season of Game of Thrones. “Your Grace, Winterfell is yours.” We all know the horrible events that transpired afterwards. Sansa has grown to become a fine and brave, young woman—an incredible glow up from the Joffrey-lovestruck little girl—and we want her to have a bright ending. Because of this line, however, we do not see Sansa Stark surviving season 8.

  1. Bran Stark

Bran is perhaps the most powerful out of the Stark siblings. Maybe, this is why we do not see his statue with his siblings. Acting as the Three-Eyed Raven, he may live longer than all the main characters. Bran is also the one who can deliver the big reveal about the true identity of Jon Snow. *ehem* Aegon Targaryen *ehem.*

  1. Tyrion Lannister

With Tyrion Lannister sailing as Hand of the Queen, we get to see how he acts once he returns home and confronts his siblings. Out of all the main characters, Tyrion’s future in this season remains vague and unseen. Finally, Tyrion has a respectable position as Hand of the Queen and is helping a leader whom he admires. However, we have yet to see how he guides the khaleesi and what he will do to shape the future of Westeros.

  1. Cersei Lannister

Throughout the entire series, the main driver for Cersei’s actions are the well-being of her children and her drive for power. After her children died, she now has nothing—save for her  greed—to live for. Slowly, we saw her turning into a mad queen and replicating the actions of the Mad King her brother assassinated. With a crowned skull appearing in one of the Game of Thrones posters, we do not see a happy ending for Cersei.

  1. Jaime Lannister

Jaime is perhaps our second favorite Lannister and the black horse that everyone is cheering for. In Season 7, we see Jaime’s eyes finally opening to the cruelty of his sister and lover, Cersei. He finally flees from Cersei and now ”intend[s] to fight for the living” if the trailer is to be  interpreted correctly. He is also one of the crowd-choice to take on the role of Azor Ahai. Hopefully, that reunites him with his brother, Tyrion. His love story arc with Brienne of Tarth remains to be seen (but we are all rooting for it).

  1. Night King

With the different kings and queens of Westeros either banding together or warring with each other, the Night King serves as a wild card. We are not sure if his role will unite old enemies or serve to be a bearer of further destruction to the people of Westeros. And after turning Viserion into a wight dragon, the Night King further increases the might of his undead army.
