This book is produced to better understand the clinical image of dementia and Alzheimer’s. This can be a tool to provide a deeper understanding of the important issues on how to do effective diagnoses. This book was made possible through a project of the Ministry of Health and Welfare in Japan to promote health for the elderly in 2004. You will have a deeper understanding of points of "notice" in diagnosing dementia in everyday practice, simplified tools for diagnosis, points for identifying causal diseases, informing drug therapy and its process, and doctor's ethics and Medical Practitioners Law. This material is made not only for physicians' practice but also for a tool to be used by other health and medical providers and as a result to expand the circle of understandings. The entire training is divided into three sections, pato-physiology, diagnoses, medication, and informed consent each with 90 minutes of training time. I sincerely hope those general practitioners can detect dementia among those who feel uneasy about "forgetfulness" in order to realize early diagnoses of dementia and early treatment. furthermore, I strongly wish that this training material will be useful for establishing a local community where patients and their families can be supported through the medical practice of general practitioners.
